It helps people make history because it is continually changing and has evolved throughout the years.
History
Theo Parrish’s “Sky Walking”, Moodymann’s “Mahogany Brown”, Rick Wilhite, and the late Mike Huckaby and friends in Detroit brought ever more musicality, connecting to Motor City’s long and deep soul/funk connections. With the likes of Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Norma Jean Bell, Omar-S, Kyle Hall and of course MK revered worldwide, Detroit is now known almost as much for house as techno. Although the city became synonymous with the machine funk of techno, from the very beginning house has been both a part of that and a force in the city in its own right. Indeed, before techno really settled in as the dominant genre definition at the end of the eighties, many Detroit pioneers considered what they did as an offshoot of house. DJs were regularly making the four hour drive to Chicago to fill their sets, and The Music Institute — considered the crucible of techno — had Chez Damier and Alton Miller, both house to the bone, as residents.

Disco hits were dominating the Top 40 radio stations and topping the charts. However, disco’s mainstream popularity drew backlash from haters, and a “Disco Sucks” movement rose. Nightclub or electronic dance music ranges from 110 to 130 beats per minute, sometimes even more. Despite these European versions, house cognoscenti still looked to America’s lead—the lush arrangements of auteur-producers such as Masters at Work, Armand Van Helden, and Deep Dish, the stripped-down severity and disco cut-ups of newer Chicago labels such as Relief and Cajual. On both sides of the Atlantic, the continuing proliferation of subgenres testified to house music’s adaptability, appeal, and seemingly inexhaustible creativity.

A tape of the “Acid Tracks” was hammered by Ron Hardy in the Music Box in 1986 and became one of his signature tunes. Released in 1987 on Trax, it immediately set off a whole new style in Chicago. New York too produced slick and soulful sounds, as the likes of David Morales and Roger Sanchez entered the house music arena. The 1987 song "Strings of Life" by Derrick May (under the name Rhythm Is Rhythm) represented a darker, more intellectual strain of early Detroit electronic dance music.

They are regarded as the notable figures that made house music as big as it is right now. The first few pioneers who made house music were DJs like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy. People eventually shortened it to simply “house”, hence the name “house music”.

While French house was filled with disco hooks and funk, many other DJs took a different route with their production in the 2000s. Mainland Europe was dominated by trance, and DJs like Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, and Armand Van Buren became worldwide phenomena. Breakbeats also became huge during this era, with Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers hitting billboard charts. The lucky attendees of The Warehouse were the first people in the world to experience this new sound and cultural movement.
How to Dance to House Music?
House music is the predecessor of the electronic disco we hear nowadays. Without the creation of house music, DJs would not be as famous as they are now. House music was initially derived from disco, which was incredibly famous during the 1970s.
And with the massive popularity of new generation bassline house embodied by the Lengoland collective and new artists like Wheeto still growing, things are only going to get rowdier. A track like the Chris Lorenzo/DJ Zinc teamup “Full of Love” perfectly captures where the sound is right now. Those fusions of UK soundsystem culture and more internationalist electro riffs continued to multiply through the 2010s. And now, with international megastars like Diplo, Hannah Wants, and Eats Everything in the mix, there is a whole, post-garage, post-post-dubstep landscape from underground to mainstream — see tunes like “On My Mind”, “Bamboozle”, and “Burn”. While the piano-pounding, hands-in-the-air stuff got more attention, the underground side of the first wave of Italo house brought a whole movement of dreamy, sunrise-evoking grooves.
It’s even influenced pop music, hip hop, and other modern music styles. To this day, the cultural impact of house music continues to inspire new generations of fans, music, technology, and innovation. Now even music’s biggest stars have paid tribute to house music pioneers.

The musicians of this era branched out and began to create brand new genres that had their roots in house and techno but were fundamentally different. Another French house alumni, David Guetta, brought house music out of the nightclub and into the mainstream in the late 2000s. The repetitive nature of house music can be used to slowly build tension in the song until the DJ releases it with a breakdown. The song will begin to build again until it’s ready for release, and the drop will finally hit, and the dancefloor will erupt. While not every house song will have this feature, many producers will utilize a repetitive vocal hook in their production.

The Birth of The Rave and New Genres
Big room house became increasingly popular since 2010, through international dance music festivals such as Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and Electric Daisy Carnival. In addition to these popular examples of house, there has also been a reunification of contemporary house and its roots. Many hip hop and R&B artists also turned to house music to add a mass appeal and dance floor energy to the music they produce. Tropical house went onto the top 40 on the UK singles Chart in 2015 with artists such as Kygo and Jonas Blue. In the mid-2010s, the influences of house began to also be seen in Korean K-pop music, examples of this being f(x)'s single "4 Walls" and SHINee's title track, "View". House is an extremely broad musical genre and songs can have widely different tones and sounds.

Born and raised in the Bronx, he cut his teeth as a DJ in New York City’s clubs and gay bathhouses. But he moved to Chicago in 1977, specifically to become Saturday night resident at The Warehouse, a club that his friend Robert Williams was opening. In fact he was only there for five years, during which time the phrase “house music” was used by local record stores to refer to the mostly disco records (often older disco), which he was extending with tape edits and double copies at the club.

A couple of years later, when Love Can’t Turn Around [with Farley “Jackmaster” Funk] came out, we did a 16-date tour of the UK. We played the London Hippodrome, and to a huge crowd on Barry Island in Wales, which reminded me of Woodstock or something. I had never been to the UK before, and seeing the enthusiasm was great.
Frankie Knuckles
The arpeggiated synth-line that introduces the track signals something special is about to happen, and over seven-and-a-half minutes it certainly does, marrying a heartfelt electronic love song with heady dancefloor bliss – something that so many house tracks strive for but so few achieve. It’s been covered and reworked by many different DJs and producers over the years, but Knuckles and Principle’s version is the one that has rightly gone down in dance music history. Frankie Knuckles even held a summer residency at mixed/gay club Heaven in 1987. Not only did Chicago tunes start hitting the charts in 1986, but British experiments like M/A/R/R/S with “Pump up the Volume” did too in 1987. As acid hit, so the charts were flooded with the likes of Coldcut, D-Mob, Adamski, Orbital, 808 State and Moore’s S’Express project with “Theme From S’Express”. Which helped lay the groundwork for the UK’s unique proliferation of genres as the 90s dawned.
Despite all the divergences, there were always large sections of the clubbing world that were dedicated to straight-up, no-messing-around house music. Jackin’ was an intrinsic property of house music from its gestation in Chicago, referring to a specific dance move involving the whole torso. But over time, jackin’ coalesced around the most brutally repetitive, percussive, looping tracks, which inspired the wildest dance moves.
Indeed, of all the strands of house, it’s probably changed the least, bounded by deep house on one side and pop crossover appeal on the other. Entering into a to-and-fro relationship in Britain with UK garage — and consistently maintaining some of the most racially mixed audiences in the process — it’s never been broken, so there’s no need to fix it. Always the ideal soundtrack for “grown folks’ dances” or getting down in the sunshine at a festival, bubbling with positivity and empowerment with a bittersweet undercurrent of struggle and heartbreak and a little bit of sauce, it’s the heart and soul of house.
As well as Beyoncé Drake’s seventh album, Honestly, Nevermind, draws on contemporary dance music sub-genres such as Jersey club, Baltimore club and South African amapiano; and Kanye West’s 11th LP, Donda 2, draws on the genre in a more veiled manner. In the 1970s, Frankie Knuckles moved from NYC to Chicago from NYC to DJ at a new club called the Warehouse. Knuckles helped innovate the genre by blending disco, funk and German electronic pop, playing obscure records, sound effects and drum machines.
Trax Records and DJ International Records, Chicago labels with wider distribution, helped popularize house music inside and outside of Chicago. The explosion of house music quickly spread across the globe by the 90s. There were even more genres and subgenres of house music emerging. Also, a rise of independent labels started releasing dance music exclusively. Dance music culture was exploding and changing significantly Worldwide. But I get that it’s opening ears to those who have had no relationship with this culture and these sounds.
They started to call it house, because it was the music that Frankie [Knuckles] played at the Warehouse, but some people called themselves box-heads because of the music [the DJ and house pioneer] Ron Hardy was playing at the Music Box. Some people were being quite critical, but I see myself as more of an ambassador. One of the things I’ve always tried to stress is that house music offered a safe place for Blacks, gays and people who were different. Everyone is welcome in our house – we’re not going to kick Beyoncé out for trying to do something that we love so much.
DJs use a combination of records or digital music players to seamlessly blend songs. This technique is called beat matching and can be used to create new songs and sounds from the original works. Over time the sound would transform and morph into a wide range of subgenres from deep to energetic. No matter what style of house music you enjoy, most of the songs have similar characteristics. House music is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that is often played at raves and music festivals, but it is not the same thing as a rave.
From its roots in the clubs of Chicago in the 1980s to its current status as a global phenomenon, House music has continued to evolve and influence other genres of music. Whether you’re a fan of classic House, Deep House, or more modern styles like Tech House and Progressive House, there’s something for everyone in this genre. I’ve got no problem with people like Drake and Beyoncé making house records because every time somebody does something like that, it eventually comes around to people like me – the experts.
Frankie Knuckles was a resident disc jockey in the Chicago nightclub called The Warehouse. It was the first genre of music to incorporate electronic synths and drum machines. DJs usually use house music to make the audiences feel more energetic and dance along with the music. Since Beyoncé's Renaissance album dropped last summer, house music has found its way back to mainstream audiences. Some are asking, "Is House back?" The truth is it never went away. That said, most of our crowd were straight kids from well-to-do families.

Meals are taken in the salon or small dining area, with fresh breakfasts, lunches and dinners prepared onboard. Wood-paneled walls, brass fixtures and leather banquettes add that nautical "cruiser" touch that is sure to please fans of smaller vessels. However, taking the Explorer cruise, as we did, was the effortless way to enjoy the Alaskan wilderness. We were fortunate to have great weather, although bad weather conditions could make for rough seas and poor visibility. The rugged cliffs of the fjords are a prime landscape for mountain goats, and I was surprised we only saw one. With high cliffs and abundant rainfall come the cascading waterfalls, one of the most iconic features of the Misty Fjords National Monument.
Having done the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s Tour in Ketchikan (which customers rave about), I tend to compare other excursions to that one. Brian tried the chowder and remarked it was good, but I couldn’t try either since they weren’t gluten-free. After the chowder, a sampling of smoked sockeye salmon on a cracker was also offered to the guests. Thick forests of spruce, western cedar, and hemlock line the fjords and, along with the abundance of moss, create a striking contrast with the granite. With both the upper and lower deck open for viewing, there was plenty of space to accommodate all guests to get photos.
THE ULTIMATE ADVENTURE FROM MIAMI
Scheduled activities are few and far between, and that's how passengers like it. The fjords are home to harbor seals, black bears, brown bears, bald eagles, and pigeon guillemots. Everywhere you look, the landscape is dotted with mesmerizing waterfalls. However, the shortened itinerary determines how much time you’ll spend exploring the wilderness area.
The crew also offered chowder and vegetarian chili on the ride back. With eyes peeled to capture the beauty, a guest next to me spotted a lone mountain goat on a cliff. During our trip, the crew scanned the waters and coastline with binoculars for signs of wildlife.
Misty Fjord Review
Your memorable journey starts when you board a 30' Aluminum Chambered boat from the downtown waterfront of Alaska's first city, Ketchikan to the beautiful Misty Fjords National Monument. Misty Fjords is about 40 miles east of Ketchikan, Alaska, along the Inside Passage coast in southeastern Alaska, and approximately two hours (one way) by boat. What makes this Misty Fjords boat tour unique is you become the captain of the ship! You will work in close partnership with the captain to determine the course. Enjoy your time through the splendid two million-acre wilderness preserve surrounded by 3,000-foot vertical cliffs, glacial fjords, and cascading waterfalls.
Here you can wander streets filled with fiery salsa sounds and meet locals smoking cigars over a game of dominoes. From its colorfully painted rooster statues to its hand-rolled cigar shops and open-air fruit markets, this is as authentic as it gets. Visitors staying in Ketchikan can arrange kayaking adventures through tour operators.
Cruise lines offer this port excursion, or you can book independently. Our tour was operated by Allen Marine, who has 45 years of experience, and we cruised on the St. Aquilina ship. We are proud to offer the best tours Alaska has to offer with Alaska shore excursions at wholesale prices.
Misty Fjords is one of those places where you can’t capture a bad image. One of the trip’s highlights was the impressive New Eddystone Rock formation. Located in the Behm Channel, the 237-foot pillar creates quite a majestic image. The Tlingit people developed a deep spiritual and cultural connection to the land, which is still honored and celebrated today.
We boarded a large catamaran close to our ship, the Quantum of the Seas, and we were thankful we didn’t have a take a bus to reach the touring vessel. Covering more than two million acres of the Tongass National Forest, the fjord continues to inspire all who visit. As its name suggests, mist often blankets the fjords, creating an ambiance that adds to the landscape’s allure. The Misty Fjords National Monument is a testament to the enduring legacy of the native people and the explorers who marveled at its splendor. As the ice retreated, the glaciers carved deep grooves into the landscape, creating the fjord seen today. Experience Miami’s Cuban traditions along Calle Ocho in Little Havana.
If you prefer to explore Misty Fjords another way, you can book a Misty Fjords flight with Taquan Air. Floatplane tours are popular in Ketchikan, and with a shortened excursion, you’ll have time to explore picturesque Creek Street, a must-see downtown. Keep a keen eye out for wildlife during this part of the journey, as Behm Canal is known to be home to a diverse range of creatures, such as bald eagles, sea lions, and humpback whales.
Taxi’s are readily available at Sea-Tac and at the cruise terminal after your cruise. A metered ride from the airport will likely cost you between $40-$70, depending on traffic. After your cruise, cab companies will offer a $40 flat rate from Pier 66 to the airport. This is a good option if you don’t want to wait for a shuttle to arrive and load or have three or four people traveling in your party. Independent LotsWhile many cruise ports have a number of independent lots that offer dramatically cheaper rates than parking at the port, Seattle is a bit different.

With convenient weekend departures and proximity to the Great Land, a cruise to Alaska from Seattle allows you to leave when you want, and spend less time getting there. Still, unlike some lines that cater to an older crowd, Princess doesn't ignore the children's market. The solo cabins in the studio zones are small (measuring 100 square feet) but are superbly designed to maximize storage space (something I learned firsthand staying in one on Norwegian Epic). On Norwegian Encore, there's a much bigger version of the exclusive, extra-charge Vibe Beach Club sunning area that's on Norwegian Bliss. The Port is accessible only during late spring (April), summer months and early fall (late September, early October).

Alaska Cruises from Seattle
Full of greenery, pubs and Victorian architecture, it's difficult to believe that this was a tent city full of rough and tumble miners just 150 years ago. On a cruise to Alaska, explore the Butchart Gardens, tour the pub scene and taste some of the local brews or sail the bay for a whale-watching adventure. Seattle proudly serves eight major cruise lines offering multiple premier ships for your Alaska adventure. That'll depend on your personal interests and travel style because there are cruises from Seattle that appeal to everyone, including family travelers, budget travelers and retirees. Westerdam is also a slightly smaller ship than Eurodam, and as a result, its demographics on any given sailing are more likely to skew toward a retired crowd. To the extent that families with younger kids book Holland America ships, they are more likely to book one of its larger vessels.
ASEAN StrEAT (400 Pine Street) is a new addition to the heart of downtown Seattle and is one of my favorite spots to bring guests. You’ll order and pay via a touchscreen kiosk and will receive a text when your order is ready. If you’re sailing anyone else like Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, Carnival, and others, then head to Pier 91.
Climb the Space Needle and enjoy the Seattle skyline, or explore the history of Pioneer Square, the city's oldest neighborhood — only when you cruise to Alaska from Seattle. When you cruise to Alaska with Princess, sail through one of the most iconic locations in the Great Land — Glacier Bay National Park. Listen to Margerie Glacier’s signature crack and boom rumble across the waves.
The new facility (abbrev Northwest Seaport Alliance) is a container ship terminal fitted with 5x super-large STS cranes (ship-to-shore/rail-mounted gantry cranes). Currently, Port's cruise business generates 5500+ jobs and annually ~USD 450 million in revenue (~USD 900M total economic activities) plus ~USD 15M in local and state taxes. Each Seattle-homeported cruise liner call generates USD 2,5+ million for the local economy.
Seattle cruises often range from nights providing cruisers with a variety of different entertainment and dining options. I would also strongly suggest you enroll in TSA Pre✓ if you’re flying out of Seattle. My favorites are Storyville Coffee (up some stairs near the 1st and Pike entrance to Pike Place Market), Ghost Alley Espresso (right next to the gum wall), and Fonte (on 1st Ave, a block south of the market). Now when it comes to food, I generally approach it with the same attitude as a half-starved stray.
When sailing to Alaska, these ships also offer other kid-friendly events, such as Puppies on Princess, when dog mushers and their newest sled dogs come on board for meet-and-greets (and photos!). Passengers staying in solo cabins get exclusive access to the Studio Lounge (using their keycards), meaning a maximum of 82 people will share the space. However, keep in mind that Alaska can be chilly, even at the height of summer, and rainy, too. Unlike the Royal Caribbean ships, the Norwegian ships also have epic waterslides on their top decks, which in theory, might put them over the top in any listing of the best cruise ships for families based in Seattle. Find exceptional City Stays & Pre/Post Overland Packages, which offer a seamless experience ashore to add to your cruise. Add air travel, hotel stays and celebrations to your cruise from Seattle.
On May 23, 2017, representatives from Port Seattle and NCLH-Norwegian celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Pier 66 Terminal. Upgrades included a mobile gangway (passenger boarding bridge), renovated check-in area and VIP lounge. Following the Coronavirus crisis, in 2021 (July 19 thru Oct 23) Port Seattle handled 83 cruise ship calls and ~230,000 passengers. In 2022 were handled 296 cruise ship calls and ~1,28 million passengers (+6% over 2019). Homeporting operations were conducted by 7x major companies operating 14x ships.

We’ll scan the barcode at the door and you’re good to go. If you want to stick to seafood, go with one of the entrees like roasted halibut, red snapper, Dover sole, broiled lobster tail or the crabcake about which I was raving earlier. If meat is more to your liking, pick something from the grill — free-range chicken, a pork chop or prime New York strip steak — instead.

Crab Place gift cards are the perfect way to send seafood to family and friends. Go beyond the traditional waterfront restaurant experience and join us for a cruise filled with delicious food and beverages, along with scenery that you won’t forget. We’ve had people in the past book their hotel stay in Solomon’s Island or Lexington Park. Marriott’s online tool shows hotels in those areas being miles from the event (which it is). Unless you’ve brought a high-quality raft, that hotel probably isn’t suitable.

To top it off, enjoy dishes such as apple cheesecake with limoncello whipped cream, chocolate truffle cake, white chocolate bread pudding or key lime pie for dessert.

The Maryland Crab Cruise That Will Make Your Summer Complete
Although the official dress code is "cruise casual," you might want to dress up a bit for dinner at Rudi's, given the atmosphere. However, Sodamin truly shines with his latest venture, Rudi's Seagrill on Carnival Cruise Line's Excel Class ships, which are the newest in the fleet. You can also read the documentation to learn about Wordfence's blocking tools, or visit wordfence.com to learn more about Wordfence.
After the feast, we'll head to the boat to set sail just before sunset ,with a complimentary raw oyster bar and sodas/water. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. Rudi's Seagrill, Carnival Cruise Line's high-end seafood restaurant, offers a menu of delicious and beautifully prepared dishes, served in a dining room that's light and airy. Glass fish accents and pops of blue color enhance the nautical vibe.
Adults can dine there for $49 per person, which includes a starter, main and dessert. Kids 11 and younger can order from the children's menu for $15. Starters include blue mussels, seared shrimp, oysters and the aforementioned lobster mac and cheese. Soup and salad choices include seafood bisque, fisherman's stew, house tossed salad or baby romaine with cauliflower and honey nut squash. Although Carnival has had onboard seafood options for years, this is a far cry from the pool deck's Seafood Shack (which recently sold me a mediocre crabcake). Instead, at Rudi's, you'll find a don't-miss lobster mac and cheese, plenty of meat and seafood selections, and crabcakes that are actually worth the price of admission.
If they opt for one of the larger (by at least one square foot) interior cabins, it'll be an extra $100. Or they could work off their lunch buffet by sweating it out at the sports court — basketball and ping pong included — for no extra charges. But it is possible to vacation on the mega-ship without giving into any of its upcharged restaurants and activities. If you're strong enough to do so, here's what your seven nights on Icon of the Seas could look like.
If you’ve purchased Full Package tickets and you’d like to upgrade to VIP, please let US know before they sell out and we’ll take care of it for you. Afterwards, you'll have the VIP ticket to the 2 hour moonlight Gulf cruise where DJ Flea will have you dancing the night away under the stars. Embark on a 2-hour cruise along Boca Ceiga Bay with drinks and dancing. Fortunately, Icon of the Seas' nighttime entertainment is also a great equalizer. Its ice skating performance, rendition of the Broadway hit "Wizard of Oz," and multi-disciplinary dance, swim, and dive show are complimentary to all guests. The three-floor restaurant has a rotating menu with classics like crab cakes, New York strip steak, and cheesecake.
Here, I'll go over what you need to know — from menu items and pricing to the ships on which you'll find Rudi's Seagrill — so you can decide if dinner at this upscale seafood restaurant is right for you. Sodamin's larger-than-life personality and whimsical "food faces" — funny visages made from plated food — have led him to partnerships with several brands in the Carnival Corporation portfolio. Such partners include Princess Cruises and Holland America Line, whose ships boast seafood eatery Rudi's Sel de Mer. All tickets have been emailed over to the email address given when ordering. If you haven’t received your tickets, please let me know by replying to this email and I’ll have a follow-up one sent. Simply print the attachment and bring it with you to the event.
The closest Marriott is in Salisbury (about 40 minutes away). There are other hotels listed at that are either right in Crisfield or close by. Please advise, the location is private to ensure the safety of the parking meeting location for the duration of the day and only those who purchase tickets will receive the address. Interested in you, your family, friends, co-workers going? A $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking for each ticket to secure your seat, no policy accommodations offered.
However, you don’t need a seat to enjoy the entertainment. Come on up when you hear your song and hit the dance floor, or just stand wherever you can and enjoy the music. And as it’s always been, there’s plenty of open seating on the lower level. If your plans change and you need to cancel your reservation, or change it to a different date, please give us a call at least 24 hours prior to departure.
A budget vacation on Royal Caribbean's new wildly popular Icon of the Seas is possible. Just be prepared to stay sober, repeat meals, and pay at least $265 a day. You'll get a meet and greet with the chefs and a personally signed Cooking with Amare cookbook from Chef Max (NY Knicks star Amare Stoudemire's personal chef).
AAR cabins on Deck 1 have a steel door that opens to a private balcony and are slightly smaller, at 275 square feet. AAM and AAC categories are located on Decks 3 and 2, respectively, and include floor-to-ceiling glass sliding balcony doors. AAM rooms are 350 square feet, with AAC rooms coming in just a bit smaller at 315 square feet -- still plenty spacious for a couple travelling together.
American Cruise Lines Makes the History of America Come Alive
Considered one of the finest staterooms on any cruise ship, guests will enjoy full-size bathrooms and a large living area complete with sliding glass door. Your in-suite mini-refrigerator will be fully stocked and replenished throughout your cruise with juices, waters, white and red wine. All suites include a private walk-out balcony where you can enjoy “suite treats” delivered to you each evening and take in the breathtaking views. After boarding, we were greeted by glasses of champagne and went directly to our staterooms, where our luggage had already been delivered. Not only does the smaller size make for a more personal experience, but also provides more interaction with both guests and crew.
ACL-American Cruise Lines opens summer season with new Tennessee River voyages
Most of the entertainment on our sailing came from the onboard river experts, Steve and JoAnn. This couple has been lecturing and performing on ACL ships since 2012, and when they weren’t telling us about the river and wildlife, they were singing and playing piano in the River Lounge. Having been on two ACL cruises, I can say confidently that no cruise line does excursions better than ACL, starting with the ship’s excursions director, Mark. He was there at all times to make sure everyone gets on the right bus, handing out umbrellas if it’s raining and insuring everything is running smoothly. Overall, the service on Serenade, just as we found on Constellation, was excellent.
ACL-American Cruise Lines unveils 3 new small ships for the 2023-2024 season
These staterooms have all the comforts of a fine hotel and feature floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a private balcony where you can sit back, relax and watch the rolling river views. All staterooms include individual climate control systems, in-room Keurig coffee brewers, ample storage, an array of toiletries, complimentary WiFi, Satellite TV, and a DVD player. Ft. of relaxing space, each Veranda suite provides the perfect balance of comfort and luxury. Be treated to a fruit and cheese plate when you arrive and cheers with a complimentary bottle of premium champagne as you begin your adventure.
During the launch ceremonies, the vessel's hull (yard number 144) is floated out from drydock into Wicomico River, then positioned in the shipyard's East Outfitting Basin to receive the superstructure (upper decks) and final outfitting. The 2023-built MS American Serenade cruise ship is the sixth/last newbuild in the American Cruise Lines' "Modern Riverboat" fleet. Ditto Paducah, Kentucky -- a quiet town that has an unusual proliferation of cool shops, unique bars and lounges, and events. During our visit, posters promoted the "Cars and Cigars" event happening that Saturday evening, and some shops proudly displayed Pride flags. American Serenade, launched this past spring, is the sixth of American Cruise Line's modern riverboats, following the debut of American Harmony, American Jazz, American Melody and American Symphony. Cruise Critic hopped onboard American Serenade for a weeklong voyage from Nashville to Chattanooga, sailing the Cumberland, Ohio, and Tennessee rivers to find out what makes the largest U.S.-flagged cruise line in the nation tick.

The line's itineraries appeal to Americans who want to see more of their own country with ease, and thus, appeal to folks with mobility issues who may not be able to travel in comfort any other way. The ship has two elevators that traverse all decks but the uppermost Sun Deck, and one wheelchair-accessible motorcoach is available to passengers who require it for shore excursions. Two Sun Deck is fitted with sunbathing and shaded seating areas, but unlike the bigger sisterships, it lacks the deck-games area (with Putting Green and Shuffleboard). Located on the third deck, these spacious staterooms feature commanding views of the passing river landscapes. Ft., there is plenty of room to enjoy the tasteful comfort of your surroundings.
American Serenade cabins review
It's the kind of charming perks cruise lines used to offer, that are still alive and well aboard American Cruise Lines. In fact, the onboard lectures American Cruise Lines put together were as good, if not better, than their European counterparts. In speaking with other passengers, the quality of their resident and guest speakers and entertainers is one reason they keep booking with the line, time after time -- a process that nets them some pretty sweet past-passenger perks.
AAM Private Balcony
The first one, American Eagle (named after their first ship in 1972) has launched, and the second, American Glory, is coming later this year. If you’re looking for a more intimate, personalized cruise experience, ACL fits the bill. With a motto of “small ship cruising done perfectly,” they provide guests with the closest thing to a turnkey, all-inclusive vacation. Their ships can be found on every major U.S. waterway and along the coastlines all the way to Alaska, showcasing the best America has to offer. We are taking their Upper Mississippi, fall foliage cruise, which starts in Alton, Illinois, just outside St. Louis, and ends in Red Wing, Minnesota.
This is where the river is the most scenic, flowing by tall bluffs and through habitats populated by bald eagles. And if the gorgeous new American Serenade is any indication, the company is only just getting started. Our weeklong voyage aboard the brand-new American Serenade was just one of many interesting itineraries the company offers that explore the far reaches of America's coastlines and waterways. Sure, ACL has a large presence on the Upper and Lower Mississippi and Columbia and Snake rivers, as one would expect.
American Cruise Lines builds its ships entirely within the United States at its own shipyard (Chesapeake Shipbuilding), and American Serenade is crewed with entirely American crewmembers, some of whom hail from the big-ship cruising world. The ship has a modern propulsion system consisting of 2x azimuth thrusters ("Z-drives") manufactured by Veth (Holland). These 360-degree rotating propellers (1x forward, 1x aft) provide the boat with greater maneuverability and berthing flexibility.
The American Serenade introduces an updated modern interior design, integrating an elegant and refined aesthetic with a tradition for the spacious comfort found aboard all of American Cruise Lines ships. Drawing inspiration from the geography across America, the new interior design highlights natural textural elements and serene color palettes. She also showcases panoramic views throughout, including an impressive four-story glass atrium in the center of the ship. American Serenade also features an on board fitness center and many spacious lounges where you can relax after the day’s adventures. To that end, passengers will find cabins that all feature full private balconies and plenty of living space, with passenger corridors anchored by a four-story atrium topped by a skylight that lets in plenty of natural light.
The service from American crewmembers is extolled in the company's brochures, but service was a weak point aboard American Serenade, particularly when it came to the Main Dining Room. While there are crew who are stellar and personable in doing their jobs, they are let down by more junior members who have experience that can be measured in days, not years. The ship is whisper-quiet, and noise is really only noticeable when docking and undocking.
Traditionally for large-sized USA riverboats, American Serenade has a fore-located boarding ramp (bow-location on Deck 1) that allows passengers to go ashore at any place along the ACL's cruisetour itinerary. The ramp has an innovative design being constructed as a retractable gangway (passenger bridge). The technology is often implemented on some of the largest ferries and features an opening bow door. It all adds up to an enriching experience on the waterways of America -- one American Cruise Lines is uniquely poised to deliver.
After the christening cruise, the ship will continue on the company’s eight-day Tennessee rivers itinerary, which travels between Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee, including stops in Decatur, Alabama; Florence, Alabama; Savannah, Tennessee; and Paducah, Tennessee. Cruising on American Serenade, enjoy comfortable lounges and large observation decks that provide the perfect place for guests to relax and enjoy the company of fellow travelers who share their interest in American heritage. Glass enclosed dining salons provide panoramic views of the spectacular scenery you will see. The 175-passenger American Serenade is the newest modern riverboat sailing the Mississippi River. She is one of the most sophisticated and elegant riverboats available on U.S. waters and the sixth for American Cruise Lines. Unlike larger, ocean-going ships, you won’t find opulent theaters, casinos, virtual reality game rooms or water parks on ACL.
The shipowner American Cruise Lines (ACL) is the USA's largest river cruise company (headquarters in Guilford Connecticut) operational since 1991. The company specializes in cruise shipping on the USA's largest navigable inland waterways (rivers and lakes) as well as in cruises along the US East Coast, US West Coast and Florida. American Cruise Lines offers a very interesting cruise following the path of Lewis and Clark on the Snake and Columbia rivers. Each day is filled with excursions and entertaining presentations of this historic adventure. There are a multitude of daily excursions to choose from some are complementary others are fee based. You also had time to peruse each historic port along the way including The Dalles and Astoria.
Air conditioning is strong enough to handle the excessive Tennessee heat and humidity, and the upper Sun Deck is among the nicest we've seen afloat on a river ship of this size. But with American Serenade and sisters American Symphony and American Melody, the line seems to have hit the design jackpot. Staterooms are spacious and wonderfully decorated, and the ship has a fabulous flow to it. The aft-situated Sky Lounge on Deck 4 helps take some of the pressure off of the main River Lounge on Deck 3, which on our sailing became so busy during cocktail hour that the event was offered in the Sky Lounge as well. If you live near one of American Cruise Lines' ports of call, the line will even invite you aboard for a complimentary lunch or dinner and tour -- even without a current reservation. If you're sailing, you can invite friends aboard in a port of call for lunch or dinner, gratis.
On formal nights, men are asked to wear a suit, tuxedo, or slacks with a jacket, while women are requested to wear a cocktail dress, evening gown, or pantsuit. Formal nights on Royal Caribbean consist of suits and ties or tuxedos for men and cocktail dresses and evening gowns for women. If you decide to not dress up, then you certainly won’t be out of place. Many people choose to dress casually and just eat somewhere else other than the main dining room or higher-end restaurants. Even so, formal nights are popular and when you walk around the ship in the evening on one of these nights, there is no mistaking that it’s dressier than normal. For that reason, as long as you avoid wearing something very casual (e.g. flip flops, shorts, and a tank top), it’s likely to be no issue.
Is Regal Princess a good ship to cruise on?
On elegant nights, Carnival's dress code leans a bit more formal. You'll see suits and ties, tuxedos or evening gowns, but don't have to go so formal yourself. On these evenings, passengers can either wear elegant casual attire or opt for a more formal look, such as gowns, cocktail dresses, dark suits or tuxedos. At Carnival cruises, formal nights are “cruise elegant” evenings. Men wear suits or dress slacks with a sport coat and dress shirt. For women, cocktail dresses, pantsuits, or elegant skirts and blouses are appropriate.
Search Should Be Cruising
Our larger ships are more stable with heavier weight and therefore are less prone to rolling motion. Most ships are so large and well-stabilized that it doesn’t even feel like you’re moving, especially in calmer waters such as Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Caribbean. The middle of the ship tends have less motion, as it is the natural balance point.
Holiday celebrations at sea
Women can simply wear a cocktail dress or a nice blouse with pants. For men, it’s fine to wear a suit, or even a buttoned-down shirt and a pair of slacks if you don’t want to get too fancy. Nice jeans would also be ok, although we’d suggest something slightly more dressy. Let’s set sail through the pre-cruise and onboard preparations that frame your formal nights in a glow of seamless enjoyment.
Dining Options for Families
Add some cross-strap heels and an elegant gold bracelet to complete your evening outfit. When booking our upcoming cruise, I noticed that another travel agency was advertising OBC offered through a credit card issuer. She made a few phone calls, and we got an extra $200 in on board credit.

Expert ship review of Princess Cruises Royal Princess - Cruise Critic
Expert ship review of Princess Cruises Royal Princess.
Add gold chain link earrings and kitten heel pumps for a polished evening ensemble. I love sharing my best cruise tips with you, along with reviews of cruise destinations, shore excursions, cruise ships and cruise lines. I didn’t try the free Pub Lunch until my second Princess cruise, when my fave bartender talked us into it. It’s always held on sea days, sometimes in the Wheelhouse Bar, but often in the Crown Grill, normally a fee-based specialty restaurant.
This costs $100 per person and entitles you to OBC on your next cruise, up to $300. This may be my number-one tip for cruising in general, but especially on Princess! I’m not saying this so you can get stiffer drinks or faster service (but you might…).
I’ve included ideas for men, women, and kids—with options ranging from semi-formal to black tie. Formal night on a cruise ship is the evening when passengers don dressy clothing for dinner, photos, and special activities. The main dining rooms usually will serve an elevated menu, with fancier options like filet mignon, prime rib, or lobster tail. Although Princess’ dress code in general is “smart casual”, your cruise will most likely have a formal night or two.
This network allows you to send as well as receive voice calls, text messages and data services on your personal mobile device. Mobile device service is available for use when the ship is at sea, in international waters and in other areas where such use is permitted. All charges will be conveniently billed to you by your mobile device provider. When registering for our Camp Discovery youth and teen programs, let our youth staff know of any medical, special needs and/or allergies, and we will make every effort to accommodate them. Please be advised that youth staff may not offer one-on-one supervision or administer medication.
Any other special diet requests must be authorized in advance by the Princess corporate office. Shortly after we welcome you on board your spectacular Princess ship, you're invited to relax and dine at the World Fresh Marketplace at Horizon Court (varies by ship). No problem; we’ll open early or stay late to accommodate you. Our pools and sports courts are both child- and family-friendly spaces to be experienced together. Discovery™ and Animal Planet™ tours are good places to start.
If you want to try each scene or see which photographer captures you best, try them all! The final photos cost less than a professional photographer in most cities would charge, and it’s a lot of fun to be in the spotlight, if only for a moment. What I do for the gold and white night is to dress in a full white outfit and use gold for all the accessories. In the crescendo towards the elegant evenings of Princess Cruise Formal Nights, several queries may dance across your mind.
Royal Caribbean calls its formal night attire “a night out in your best black-tie look.” On its website, it says suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses, or evening gowns are all acceptable options. Its Chef’s Table dining experience also enforces a formal dress code policy. We like to make an educated guess, and then make our specialty restaurant reservations for evenings that most likely won’t be formal. The food in the main dining rooms is slightly elevated on formal nights. Also, the specialty restaurants can be busier on formal nights, because they don’t have a formal dress code.
